We humans adore a sign.
A song comes on at exactly the right moment. Someone texts after we were just thinking about them. We see the same number three times, have a suspiciously specific dream, or stumble across a quote that appears to have personally tracked us down.
And sometimes, those moments feel meaningful.
But sometimes, darling, it isn’t the universe sending another cryptic memo.
It’s a pattern.
And patterns can tell us quite a lot.
The Thing That Keeps Happening
Maybe you keep ending up in relationships where you’re doing most of the emotional work.
Maybe every time life starts going well, you suddenly find twelve reasons why it probably won’t last.
Maybe you keep saying yes when you mean no, explaining yourself to people committed to misunderstanding you, or returning to situations you already know leave you depleted.
Once might be circumstance.
Twice might be coincidence.
But when the scenery changes and the storyline somehow remains suspiciously familiar?
Worth a look.
Patterns Aren’t Punishments
Recognizing a pattern isn’t about sitting yourself down for an emotional disciplinary hearing.
It’s information.
Patterns often develop because something worked for us once. Keeping quiet kept the peace. Overexplaining helped us feel understood. People-pleasing kept relationships intact. Hyper-independence made needing someone less risky.
The problem is that survival strategies don't always realize when their shift has ended.
They simply keep clocking in.
Curiosity Changes Everything
Instead of asking:
“Why do I keep doing this?”
Try:
“What am I getting, avoiding, protecting or hoping for when I do this?”
That tiny shift removes some of the judgment and makes room for understanding.
And understanding gives you choices.
You might notice that you aren't actually attracted to emotionally unavailable people. You’re attracted to the familiar feeling of trying to earn closeness.
You might realize you aren't terrible at boundaries. You’re uncomfortable with what happens after you set one.
You might discover that what you called intuition was sometimes anxiety, what you called loyalty was sometimes fear of leaving, or what you called patience had quietly become waiting for someone else's potential.
That doesn't make your past choices foolish.
It makes them understandable.
And Yes, You Can Still Believe in Signs
This isn't an eviction notice for magic.
Keep the synchronicities. Keep the moon rituals. Keep the strange little moments that make life feel larger than what we can measure.
Just leave a chair at the table for pattern recognition too.
Because sometimes the most useful message isn't hidden in the stars.
It's sitting directly inside the thing that keeps repeating.
And perhaps the sign you've been waiting for isn't telling you what will happen next.
Perhaps it's showing you what keeps happening now.
Notice it. Name it. Then decide whether you still want to participate in it.
That is where things begin to change.

Question the pattern. Keep the magic. Choose consciously.
