Sometimes we forget that we haven't met all of our life yet.
We get so wrapped up in what has already happened, what went wrong, what we lost, what we should have done differently, that the past starts feeling enormous and the future starts looking strangely small.
But think about this:
There are still so many good days you haven't lived yet.
There are mornings you haven't woken up to.
Songs you haven't heard yet that will eventually become your song.
Places you'll wander into without knowing they'll become important to you.
People you haven't met who will someday know exactly how you take your coffee.
There are conversations that will make you laugh until your stomach hurts. Random Tuesdays that will turn out surprisingly lovely. Meals you'll talk about for years. Little traditions that don't even exist yet.
There are versions of you that you haven't met either.
You five years from now might have completely different worries. Different routines. Different people around the table.
You may love things you currently know nothing about.
You might finally try the thing you've been putting off and wonder why on earth you waited so long.
You might become wonderfully mediocre at a new hobby and have an excellent time doing it.
And no, this isn't about pretending everything ahead will be beautiful.
Life will still be life.
There will be difficult days, boring days, inconvenient days and days when the universe apparently wakes up and chooses administrative nonsense.
But those aren't the only days coming.
Good ones are coming too.
Quiet ones.
Exciting ones.
Ordinary ones that you won't realise were special until much later.
Days when something you've been working toward finally happens.
Days when nothing particularly impressive happens, but you're sitting somewhere comfortable, eating something good, laughing with someone you love, and suddenly realise:
I'm happy right now.
Maybe that's one of the loveliest things about being alive.
We don't know everything that's coming.
We haven't heard every joke.
We haven't watched every sunset.
We haven't met everyone we're going to love.
We haven't discovered every place that will eventually feel like home.
Your story isn't limited to everything that's happened so far.
There is still an enormous amount of life you haven't seen.
So if today isn't particularly spectacular, that's alright.
It doesn't have to carry the weight of your entire future.
It's only one day.
And darling, there are still so many good ones you haven't lived yet.
