We Require Substance

Humans require substance.

Not just food, water, work, sleep and something entertaining to scroll through while avoiding our thoughts.

We need depth.

Real conversations. Things that make us curious. People who make us think. Work that means something to us. Laughter that actually reaches the stomach. Time outside. Music that changes the atmosphere. Something to create, learn, question, build or care about.

We can have a life that looks perfectly fine and still feel strangely underfed by it.

Because comfort isn’t always fulfilment.

Neither is being busy.

And distraction certainly isn’t connection.

Sometimes that restless feeling isn’t asking you to completely reinvent your life.

Maybe it’s simply saying:

Give me something real.

Read something that challenges you. Have the conversation you keep avoiding. Learn something completely unnecessary. Make something badly. Sit outside without documenting it. Spend time with people you can actually be yourself around.

We don’t need every moment to be profound.

But we do need enough substance in our lives to remember that we are living them, not merely passing through them.
